The doctors’ prayer
You are the Healer and not I: I do not rely on my wisdom, and I do not put my trust in the drugs and herbs, which are means to fulfill Your will and to make known Your providence
And in order to make known to all who come into the world that You are the Healer, and Yours are the power and the greatness, and from the place of Your dwelling You watch over all the inhabitants of the earth (Tehillim 33:14) and each one of them, You created remedies in Your world, to heal people with them according to their kinds; and You directed rightly in Your command that people should heal one another with them, as it is written in the Torah, “and he shall surely heal” (Shemos 21:19). And since You have graciously shown my heart kindness, and crowned me with honor and glory, and granted me to know a tiny bit of the wisdom of healing, therefore I have desired to do Your will, my G-d; and because of “Do not withhold good from one to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it” (Mishlei 3:27), “I spoke with my heart” (Koheles 1:16) to engage in the work of healing in Your holy Name and with Your help, “so that You are justified when You speak, and right when You judge” (Tehillim 51:6). For You are the Healer, and not I; for I am like clay in Your hand, Maker of all, and like a tool through which You heal Your creatures. And I do not rely on my wisdom, and I do not put my trust in the drugs and herbs and remedies that You created in Your world; for they are means to fulfill Your will and to make known Your greatness and Your providence.
