Vayeshev, on Bereishis 40:23

Rabbi Yosi: one who makes flesh and blood his protector does not have his needs met, and is cursed besides; one who makes HaKadosh Baruch Hu his protector has his needs met, and is blessed besides. Yosef put his trust in flesh and blood, and the chief butler did not remember him

This is what the pasuk says: “Fortunate is the one whose help is the G-d of Yaakov” (Tehillim 146:5). Rabbi Yosi said: Come and see how great the difference is between one who makes HaKadosh Baruch Hu his protector and one who makes flesh and blood his protector. One who makes flesh and blood his protector: not only are his needs not met, but he is included in “cursed,” as it is written, “Cursed is the man who trusts in people, and makes flesh [and blood] his strength” (Yirmiyahu 17:5). And one who makes HaKadosh Baruch Hu his protector: not only are his needs met, but he is blessed, as it is written, “Blessed is the man who trusts in Hashem, and Hashem will be his security” (Yirmiyahu 17:7). Yosef, because he put his trust in flesh and blood, [saying,] “If only you would remember me” (Bereishis 40:14): what is said of him? “And the chief butler did not remember Yosef” (Bereishis 40:23).
