“I am Hashem” (Vayikra 25:38): from here they said: Whoever accepts upon himself the yoke of [the laws of] interest accepts the yoke of Heaven; and whoever throws off from himself the yoke of interest throws off from himself the yoke of Heaven. “I am Hashem your G-d, who brought you out” (Vayikra 25:38): on this condition I brought them out of the land of Egypt, on condition that you accept the mitzvah of interest. For whoever acknowledges the mitzvah of interest acknowledges the Exodus from Egypt, and whoever denies the mitzvah of interest is as if he denies the Exodus from Egypt.1
