Heard in the name of a gaon: a person must reflect on his dealings and see Hashem’s providence over him, and so his bitachon grows strong; where it is not evident at the end of a deal, let him look at how it came to him at the start
And I heard in the name of a certain gaon, who said that a person must reflect on his business dealings and see the providence of Hashem over him; and through this the middah of bitachon will grow strong in him. And this is what is written, “Taste and see that Hashem is good; fortunate is the man, etc.” (Tehillim 34:9): that is to say, he should reflect well, like one who wants to taste something. And even if the providence was not so evident at the end of the deal, for example, that he brought grain to the market to sell, and the price was high just then, and through this he made a profit, and the like, he should reflect on how this deal came into his hand in the first place: that is, in what way the grain, or the money for it, came his way; and so in every deal; and he will see open providence.
